The Community Residential Worker program is designed to provide opportunities for participants to develop the basic knowledge, skills, practical experience, and values necessary to work with individuals with exceptionalities who require support to reach their potential.
Students graduating from the Community Residential Worker Program will be trained to work with people experiencing mental illnesses, autism, learning disabilities, and other special conditions. In doing so the student will help the individual to achieve maximum independence in daily living.
The Community Residential Worker Course is based on the guiding principle that all human service para-professionals need training comprised of courses that ensure the acquisition of applicable knowledge, the competent use of required skills, and the values of caring and respect for individuals leading to the promotion of self-development. Core courses are shared with other programs within Island Career Academy to increase options for students who wish to further their education.
The Community Residential Worker Program promotes readiness for employment in the community by developing the abilities and willingness to function effectively within teams. The specialty courses focus on practical strategies for implementing supportive programs to foster the individuals with exceptionalities to reach their fullest potential.Graduates will be qualified to work in small option homes, group homes, respite care, Adult Vocational Centers, public and private social service agencies as well as educational settings.
